Reported November 2, 2026 · Event: November 1

The Congress-led INDIA bloc brought its campaign over electoral rolls to Ramlila Maidan on November 1, demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. The BJP rejected the opposition’s allegations, while the Election Commission denied favouring any party. The confrontation centres on whether the voter-list revision has wrongly excluded eligible citizens.

What the protesters are challenging

Reuters reported thousands at the Delhi demonstration, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi among those leading it. Opposition parties allege that the revision benefits the BJP and disproportionately affects minorities. Those remain allegations, rather than findings established by the rally.

The agency reported more than 130 million names removed in the revision. That overall figure should not be read as a verified total of unlawful deletions: the dispute concerns the reasons for removals and the treatment of eligible voters. Reuters also recorded an individual protester’s account of relatives allegedly marked as having moved away.

The BJP and Election Commission responses

According to Reuters, the Election Commission says it has not favoured a party and that wrongly deleted voters can re-enrol. J. P. Nadda rejected the protest’s stated purpose and accused its organisers of seeking to create disorder. That accusation is the minister’s political response, not an independently established description of the demonstrators.

PTI’s report carried by The Tribune records a separate BJP briefing by Sambit Patra. He disputed the opposition’s portrayal of the crowd and challenged Gandhi’s criticism of the 2024 election. The opposing claims about attendance are not a reliable basis for assigning a precise crowd total here.

What the rally establishes—and what needs evidence

The demonstration establishes a public demand for accountability and an organised political challenge to the revision. It does not, by itself, resolve an individual voter’s case or prove every claim made from the stage. The useful next evidence would be the relevant roll entries, reasons for changes and records of how disputed cases were handled.

This report covers the national dispute. Its location in Delhi does not turn it into a Delhi municipal story. Follow National political coverage for distinct developments rather than repeated versions of the same rally.

Frequently asked questions

What did the INDIA bloc demand?

Its November 1 demonstration called for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the voter-list revision.

Did the Election Commission accept the allegations?

No. Reuters reported its denial of political favouritism and its statement that wrongly deleted voters can re-enrol.

Is the deletion figure proof that every removal was wrongful?

No. A total count does not establish the validity of each change. Individual cases and the reasons recorded for them require scrutiny.
