Telangana leaders call preparedness review over El Niño concerns

HYDERABAD | TELANGANA | 22 OCTOBER 2026

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy called ministers and elected representatives to a 23 October meeting at Praja Bhavan to review the possible effect of El Niño conditions on the state. The planned discussion focused on water availability, farming and power supply, according to a report published on 22 October.

Preparing for a rainfall risk

The government was seeking an assessment ahead of possible rainfall shortfalls. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka headed a Cabinet subcommittee tasked with examining rain-deficit areas and difficulties faced by farmers. The review was intended to bring together officials and public representatives who could report local conditions and discuss a response.

The report also described a plan for an all-party delegation to approach the Union government. That would be a political and administrative request for support; it should be read as a proposal at the time of reporting, rather than as a confirmed visit or a decision by the Centre.

What residents should watch

Farmers and city residents can be affected in different ways if water supplies come under stress. Irrigation planning, drinking-water management and electricity demand all depend on the actual rainfall and reservoir position. The announcement of a meeting does not by itself establish that a drought or specific losses have occurred.

The next evidence will be the decisions from the review, district assessments and any formal requests to the Union government. This report reflects the meeting plan as reported on 22 October 2026.
